Get Your Class C and C&E LGV Truck Driving Licence and Find a HGV Driving Job

Train To Become a HGV Truck Driver

Hi, I'm Dave and I hold a full Class C truck driving licence. I passed my HGV theory test (along with the Hazard Perception test) and subsequently the Class C practical driving test in 2001 first time.

I've been through the system so I know what is required to pass. The Driver Shortage website is dedicated to providing you with useful information on how to pass your LGV driving tests. I go on to explain a bit about the Class C&E driving test, required to drive articulated lorries.

I also discuss further qualifications you can train for such as HIAB and ADR.

Lastly, I've searched the web for HGV jobs. I constantly update the job listings on this website to include the latest truckl driving jobs I find. Despite the industry crying out for drivers, first time drivers will find it difficult getting a job, with the typical career path starting by working for a driving agency. That said, for the right people, truck driving can be a thoroughly rewarding job.

Is There A Driver Shortage In The UK?

I get a range of emails from all manor of people. Some say the industry is crying out for new truck drivers whilst others have been made redundant and are bitter about the so-called shortage.

The truth is that the industry is understaffed but money is an issue. If haulage and logistics firms could spend millions of pounds on recruitment, they would. It's just not possible in today's economic climate though.

That said, there are always truck driving vacancies available. There are some drivers who know no other life. They have always driven as a career. There are also short-term drivers who realise trucking is not for them. It's these people that leave creating a fresh vacancy.

Haulage is not an easy industry to get into. You have to sell yourself as a reliable, honest, trustworthy and professional driver. Like any other job you need a CV and will need to sit through an interview and probably a test drive.

Once you're in, you need to always be professional. A clean licence is generally a must as is a clean criminal record. Driving offences are one of the worst type of offence for a truck driver!

There's plenty of advice scattered around this website so please take a look around.
