Community Drivers' Hours Regulations
As from 11 April 2007, a nwe version of the Commenity Drivers' Hours Regulations came into force.
Here is an overview of the changes:
- Transport firms are automatically liable for infringements committed by their drivers
- As a result, consignors, freight forwarders, tour operators, principal contractors, sub-contractors and driver employment agencies are now responsible for ensuring that contractually-agreed transport schedules respect the new regulations
- Authorities in the UK now have the power to investigate infringements detected in the UK but commited outside of Great Britain
- Certain commercial vehicles are exempt from these regulations and are termed "historic status" vehicles.
