HGV Truck Tyres

It is important to ensure that:

  • All HGV tyres are correctly inflated
  • All HGV tyres have at least 1.0mm minimum tread depth across three quarters of the tyre all the way around
  • All HGV tyres are free from debris
  • All HGV tyres are not bulging

You can often travel along the motorway and see 'blow outs' where a tyre on the cab or trailer has burst. If any debris is left on the carriageway, telephone the police. Do not go and collect it yourself.

A lot of the big companies such as Goodyear and ATS offer HGV tyre maintenance to larger companies.

It should also be pointed out that some tyre companies can re-tread (re-groove) tyres to help minimise haulage costs.

Remember that some cheap truck tyres are false economy. You spend less to buy the tyre but then have to replace the tyre more frequently than a proven branded truck tyre alternative.

Continental Tyres has a FAQ section for truck tyre questions which may be useful.
